DIY store Hornbach is famous for its unconventional advertising - always focussing on craft and creativity to prove that whatever you set your mind to can be made possible.

The agency Heimat TBWA had an idea they’d been sitting on for a while wondering if it could be achievable to build a working 35mm film camera using things only available from the hardware store.

After some pre-testing where we proved the concept was possible - we established the skills a small group would need to be able to pull this off - and then set about unleashing them on the task.

The group not only designed and built the camera with their own hands, they then used the camera to film a number of short, surreal films - starring in their very own film festival.

In making the documentary of the project, the concept proved to not just about making something but also the joy of teamwork, cinema and shared achievement.

“This is about the joy of making things, and that's a marvellous notion for this brand to get behind.”
