A small group of intrepid mycologists came together to embark on a bio-intelligence research assignment, forming MTS (Mycelium Translation Systems), in which we cultivated a mushroom colony to perform a continuous musical and visual display.

Bio-sensors were used to capture electrical impulses from the fungi and the neural network of the mycelium that connects them. And the bio-feedback data was translated live into a generative stream of music and visuals by a similar artificial network made up of an array of recycled electronics.

Visitors were able to glimpse further into the language of nature, as they were invited to wear polarised sunglasses and visors in order to see the visuals that were playing on seemingly blank bright white LCD screens - gently encouraging us to look beyond the surface.
